AYSO has transitioned from registering players based on the school year to registering them based on their birth year. This change was made to bring alignment with other youth soccer organizations and the U.S. Soccer Player Development Initiatives.

Starting from the Membership Year 2023, the age of players for registration purposes will be determined based on their age as of December 31 of that year. For instance, for Membership Year 2023, a player's division placement will be determined by their age on December 31, 2024.

Children who will turn four years old anytime between January 1 and December 31 are eligible to participate in AYSO Playground Soccer.

To assist in determining the appropriate age group and division for players, a chart is provided, and guidelines and rules from U.S. Soccer are followed.
